Day 22 -Torres Del Paine to Puerto Natale 160 km

It blew a hooley all last night and snowed on the mountains around. Today was the day we were to have hiked up and taken lots of lovely pictures of the famous towers. Unfortunately, Matthias failed miserably in organising good weather and there was bugger all on show. The planned 8 hour hike turned into a gentle 2.5 hour ramble up to the first point on the trail. Cloud and a few spots of sleet confirmed that there was to be no show today so we cut our losses and decided to hit the road early.

On the way out of the park, the condors were everywhere, soaring over the escarpments. Not sure what they eat but they must eat well cos they are huge. The hotel had s single feather in a display case which was as long as a human arm and the quill was as thick as a pencil. Later on, I saw some shadows moving on the road as I was riding along and looked up to see 3 condor circling overhead

Two days of the ride to go and it is feeling a bit strange. We seem to have been riding forever. I looked at the map yesterday and realised how far we have travelled. We are neary as far south as we can go. Ushuaia is at the same lattitude south as Dublin is north but there is very little in common with the two places. It is the equivalent of August Bank Holiday here and it is anything but summer like. Snow, Glaciers and cold winds....and lots of wind. There are flowers in the fields but the grass is brown.
