Anyway, a day off the bike was a nice change. It gave Matthias the chance to change some tyres and also fix Reiner´s bike which seems to be suffering a bit. It gave us a chance to wander round Mendoza. More importantly, it gave us the chance to glug some fine vino in the country´s wine capital. We went out of the city and visited a couple of bodegas.
The first was rubbish. It looked like nobody had done anything to it for years and the two girls working there obviously didn´t give a shit. So, we got to see a lot of disused kit - the place used to churn out millions of litres a year, but now only produces a few thousand - all these huge wooden vats sitting there rotting from the ground up. The little wine they did produce was unremarkable.
The next one was great. The woman showing us round was keen and waited for Matthias and Danilla to interpret for us. Again, they only produce a fraction of what they used to, but it´s quality stuff. Anyway, more tasting and Paul bought some bubbly for his birthday in a weeks time.
Then it pissed with rain. The infrastructure doesn´t cope well with an influx of water and road junctions became flooded quickly. Not that it appeared to slow anyone down much. But we got to see a few minor accidents.
Off to the Internet cafe to do this blog.
Later, I´m going to spend a silly amount of money on the best steak and red wine you can get in downtown Mendoza - probably about a tenner.
