Day 24 Punta Arenas to Ushuaia

We stayed in a small hotel last night which apparently is apparently frequently used by Antartic explorers. This sled is in the lobby and from the writing on the side has been used by one Hannah McKean. All in All, Punta Arenas has very little to recommend it other than a couple of good bars and Pisco Sours.

Last day on the bikes. We get up early to catch the ferry to Tierra Del Fuego. A funny name which means 'Land of Fire'. Apparently the first explorers though that all the low clouds on the mountains was smoke. Go Figure. The scrum to get on the little ferry worries us for a bit as there seems to be nobody in charge and everyone is loaded backwards.

Tierra del Fuego is spectacular and puts on a good show for us. We have 150km Gravel before the last border crossing back to Argentina and then a magnificent ride through the mountains and to Ushuaia.

Suddenly, the famous sign saying we have reached the southernmost city in the world and our trip is all over. It is a bit of a shock at first and I want to turn around and go north again. But I am tired and a beer in the bar soon makes thoughts of spending another month on the bike pass.
