Day 7 - Malargue to El Huecu 450km

Breakfasting in Malargue, we looked out the window to see a huge que for the petrol station...with people pushing their vehicles rather than driving them. This looked bad as we needed to gas up to get where we were going to and a 1 hour wait was not what we wanted. Then Matthias pointed out that the cars were mostly beat up old ones so that meant locals who run the cars on natural gas rather than petrol were in the queue. A quick check confirmed that nobody was looking for petrol. You can see some real specimens still running here, some from the 60s and 70s....some held together with more filler than metal. Some are sort of bowed in the middle from who knows what.

The rest of the day we spent riding through largely desert areas, occasionally crossed by rivers. It was prety hot, very dusty and not much sign of life about.

You come across horses seemingly everywhere. These four seemed to be haveing a pretty good time of it.

Eventually, we laid up at El Huecu, a tiny village where the local lads chat up the local girls from horseback. We passed on the way to the phone booth to call home (mobile service finished 500 miles ago) and there was one lad chatting up 3 girls from his saddle. On the way back, there were 3 guys on horses. Maybe a horse is something like a Ford Escort round here. And the strange thing is it all looked so natural. No streetlights, no tarmac, no pub!.
